New: Kevin Toms Football * Manager

Kevin Toms Football * Manager is what happens when the man who created the original Football Manager game (the one released in 1982 for computers with 16k of RAM) brings the same pick-up-and-play ethos to Android. It’s crude. It’s simplistic. It’s also – as it turns out – an awful lot of fun. Ultimately, the game mostly involves basic team selection/management, a smattering of tactics, and tense match highlights. It might seem prehistoric to anyone who cut their teeth on modern football management games, but it’s a delight for anyone hankering after immediacy from a management game, rather than something with so much depth it threatens to take over their life.

The World's Shortest IQ Test is Only Three Questions

Taking an IQ test doesn't have to be akin to drilling through the marathon of questions that is the SAT. (Please don't make us go through that again. Please.) In fact, what has been hailed as the world's shortest IQ test in the world is a whole three questions. Yup, you can take it right now and start bragging to your friends within 30 minutes.

Trick Question

The Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) was developed by psychologist Shane Frederick in 2005. In a paper published in The Journal of Economic Perspectives, Frederick describes that he picked the three questions for the CRT because they were all "found to yield impulsive erroneous responses." That is, the questions make it easy for people to quickly jump to conclusions, instead of closely analyzing the seemingly simple quiz items.
This kind of mental trickery is how so few people can nail each of the three questions. Beginning in January 2003, the CRT was administered to 3,428 respondents in 35 separate studies over a 26-month period. During that experiment, only 17 percent of students from the top universities in the world (like Yale and Harvard) got a perfect score on the CRT questions. Based on the results of this 26-month experiment, Frederick introduced the complete CRT to the world in 2005. This short test was designed to test someone's ability to ignore their intuitive gut response and think more rationally. Scroll down to try out the questions, and keep scrolling to check your answers.

Can You Correctly Answer Elon Musk's Favorite Job Interview Question?

A Musk-Answer Question

If nerves somehow don't completely destroy you before sitting down for a job interview with Elon Musk, here's how to handle the rest of the experience. While speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai in February 2017, Musk gave some insight on how to nail an interview with him. Spoiler: It's not easy.
"Tell me the story of your life and the decisions that you made along the way and why you made them, and also tell me about some of the most difficult problems you worked on and how you solved them," Musk said, adding that the question is "very important." Yeah, you heard the man, tell him. Your. Life. Story. But really, what were you expecting?

Here's the Interview Question

According to Elon Musk's biography written by Ashlee Vance, the tech mogul has — or at one point had — one particular interview question he'd ask every candidate. Unlike the daunting story about your life's journey, this one is almost a riddle. Here goes:
You're standing on the surface of Earth. You walk one mile south, one mile west, and one mile north. You end up exactly where you started. Where are you?
Scroll down to see if Elon would hire you, er, if you got the correct answer. Hint: There are two correct answers to this tricky riddle.

Can You Solve the Burning Rope Logic Puzzle?

Ready for a head-scratcher? The burning rope problem is a logic puzzle that doesn't require much math, or even pen and paper. Just the ol' noggin. It's a fun — if not infuriating — one to try out with friends and family. Just make sure you can solve it first. This problem was originally found on the Math MeetingYouTube channel.

Here's The Logic Puzzle

You have two ropes and a lighter. Each rope has the following property: If you light one end of the rope, it will take one hour to burn to the other end. They don't necessarily burn at a uniform rate. How can you measure a period of 45 minutes? Watch the video below for the solution or keep scrolling to read the answer.

The Two Burning Ropes Brain Teaser

You might even second guess the solution, but it's logical. To measure 45 minutes with these two ropes, you should first light both ends of one rope. At the same time, only light one end of the second rope. When the first rope is completely burned up, 30 minutes will have elapsed. At this point, you should then light the other end of the second rope. Because there are 30 minutes left of burn time on this rope, lighting the other end will cut that time in half, leaving you with 15 minutes of burn. Overall, you will have burned through both ropes in 45 minutes.

The British Government Is Using This Puzzle to Recruit Young Spies

which broadcasts a puzzle every morning in its "Puzzle for Today" slot, broadcast something a little different. It was a puzzle, yes, but it was supplied by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a GCHQ subdivision dedicated to cybersecurity. The NCSC aimed to pique the interest of young girls with their puzzle, in hopes of recruiting 12- and 13-year-olds as prospective spies. Though the challenge was meant for tweens, it's no walk in the park. Try the puzzle out yourself below, and keep scrolling to read the answer.

Here's the Puzzle

"Thirteen rotters stole my answer and they ROTated it by 4 and then ROTated it by 10 and all I have left is Uccr ziqy hc ozz QmpsfTwfgh Uwfzg! — can you help me get my answer back?"You can scroll down for the answer. But first, a few hints to help you crack the code, if you're stuck. This puzzle is an example of a "Caesar cipher," a type of word scramble where every letter of a message is shifted (or rotated) through the alphabet by a certain number of letters. Imagine a Rubik's cube of letters. According to Business Insider, "Thirteen rotters" is a clue in and of itself too. It references "ROT13," a cipher that shifts letters exactly halfway along the alphabet (A becomes N, N becomes A), replacing a letter with a letter that comes 13 letters later. Knowing this tells us that the puzzle is dealing with a 26-letter alphabet. Phew.

Here's the Answer

It'll help if you write out the entire alphabet before you begin. Now, start with the first letter in the code, U. The puzzle says "they ROTated it by 4," so count four letters back. That gets you Q. "And then," the puzzle says, "ROTated it by 10." Keep counting back 10 letters, which gets you G.
Do the same thing with every letter in the code. If you get to the beginning of the alphabet before you're done counting, just skip back to Z and keep going.
If you did it all correctly, you should get this message: Good luck to all CyberFirst girls! Yes, it's cheesy, but hopefully for GCHQ, it got a handful of curious young girls interested in cybersecurity. Did you solve it?
